Tovel AI Card Forces Human Approval in AI-Driven CRM, Challenging Autonomous Agent Trend

Tovel AI has launched the Tovel AI Card, a pocket-sized recorder and companion app that captures calls, meetings, and in-person conversations and prepares follow-up work such as CRM records, calendar events, tasks, and contacts for user review. The product stands out because it mandates an approval step before any record is created, directly countering the industry's push toward autonomous AI agents that act without human confirmation. "If we remove the human, there's no accountability," said John LeRoy, co-founder and CEO of Tovel AI. "Users need to be accountable for their actions. They can't be oblivious and not pause to think about the consequences."

This matters because sales and CRM adoption has long been a pain point. Existing AI recording tools typically produce transcripts and summaries, leaving the tedious work of logging notes, opportunities, and contacts to the user. Tovel aims to close that gap by not only capturing conversations but also preparing the actual follow-up actions. "What's in the marketplace does not instigate the follow-up actions," LeRoy said. "The user still needs to take the information these recorders provide and do the work behind it."

The Tovel AI Card connects directly to more than 30 business applications, eliminating the need for custom automations. Supported CRM platforms include Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive, ActiveCampaign, GoHighLevel, and real estate systems Follow Up Boss and BoldTrail. It also integrates with Google, Outlook, and Apple calendars; Zoom, Google Meet, and Calendly; Asana, ClickUp, Jira, Linear, Notion, monday.com, and Google Tasks; and Slack, Microsoft Teams, Gmail, Outlook, and QuickBooks Online. For workflows outside these direct connections, Zapier and Make.com are supported.

Rather than classifying every extracted item as a generic to-do, Tovel sorts each next step by its intended outcome—a contact, a lead or opportunity with a value and stage, an appointment, an assigned task, a quote or invoice, or a follow-up message—and prepares the corresponding record. The system uses a physical device instead of a software bot that joins video calls, which covers conversations that never touch a screen, such as client visits, property showings, and site inspections. The app groups recordings into a searchable library spanning both calls and in-person meetings.

Privacy and legal compliance are addressed through a consent mode that asks how many participants are present and prompts each to state their name and consent before recording continues. "It's not only a sensitive topic about whether or not you're recording me," LeRoy said. "It's also a legal and liability topic. Laws about consent vary state by state, and it's important to give the user the ability to comply." Tovel notes that users and organizations remain responsible for compliance with applicable laws and professional requirements.

Subscriptions come in three tiers. A free plan offers 120 transcription minutes per month and basic summaries using an AI provider account the customer already holds. A bring-your-own-AI plan at $9.99 per month adds unlimited transcription (subject to fair use), advanced summaries, and action-item extraction; customers connect OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini and are billed by that provider. A personal plan at $29.99 per month includes Tovel-hosted AI usage and requires no separate account or API key. Both paid tiers include a 30-day free trial. The Tovel AI Card is available at a launch price of $99 (regularly $159), with two-device and three-device packages at $160 and $210. The first 300 completed orders include one month of subscription at no charge. Every order carries a 30-day return period with prepaid return shipping and a full refund of the device price.

For businesses, Tovel licenses are assigned per device rather than per user, and a team leader's read-only management account does not consume a seat. Managers can oversee devices, recordings, and sync status from a single view. The product targets client-facing professionals and teams in sales, real estate, legal, consulting, and field services. The Tovel app is available on the App Store and Google Play. More information is available at tovel.ai.
